Abstract

Human hair consists of about 80% keratin, which is only obtained from animal sources. The amino acid profile of sheep wool is very similar to human hair, especially the amino acid cystine that strengthens hair. Relaxing hair chemically damages hair as the keratin is broken down and the amount of cystine present is reduced, resulting in weak hair that breaks easily.
