Abstract

May has always been a sneaky month to me. One minute, everyone is on holiday and soaking up what's left of our hot South African summer, and the next, the wind has picked up an icy chill and the sun has suddenly decided to set hours earlier than it used to! Although I know these changes have been happening gradually, it still surprises me every year when I leave the office and realise it's dark outside, or I find myself putting the car heater on in the mornings. Technically, June is the month winter officially starts but to me, May brings with it a sharp reminder that I'm only a few weeks away from dry skin, chapped lips and static hair.
