The South African cosmetics industry accounts for about six per cent of manufacturing which, in 2013, was estimated at R17 billion. Between 1995 and 2013, the industry grew by about 4.1 per cent per annum. These figures form part of the TIPS report on the South African cosmetics industry which was presented to stakeholders by TIPS economist, Mbofholowo Tsedu during an industry stakeholders workshop hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti). The content of this research set out to improve the dti's understanding and knowledge of both the international and South African cosmetics and personal care sectors, with the aim of growing cosmetics manufacturing in the country.
