Institutions such as IMFO, the DBSA, Absa INCA and more organize valuable Symposia throughout the country in a serious effort to assist municipalities to fulfill their mandates, and to perform at higher levels to the ultimate benefit of the communities they serve.
On 28 February 2008, the DBSA hosted a workshop on the further development of infrastructure investment planning in municipal government. This is part of an ongoing process of restructuring and improving the strategic environment at municipal level for improved municipal service delivery. This topic has been addressed more than once at IMFO conferences in the past and has emerged as a key process in assessing the operating impact of capital investments at municipal level.
The Municipal Property Rates Act, 6 of 2004 (MPRA), has given municipal finance officials and valuers much to lament. Bathing in the honey of victorious implementation for certain municipalities the celebrations were short lived with the honourable Minister Mufamadi keeping us ever vigilant at the publication of draft regulations in terms of the MPRA for comment.
