LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUPPLIER 2006 - 69 The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is a body that was established through an act of parliament and focuses mainly on promoting public safety, health and the interests of the relevant stakeholders. ECSA derives its powers and responsibilities from the Engineering Profession Act 46 (Act 46 of 2000). In accordance with this act, the four year term of the council came to an end in August 2005. The council consists of 50 members and of those, 30 must be registered persons nominated by voluntary associations, registered persons and prescribed nominating bodies.
