It supplies potable water to some parts of the Northwest, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. The area of operation is in the region of 34 000 km2. Magalies Water was established in 1969 as the Vaalkop Water Board and underwent its name change in 1983 when its operational area was extended to the East, outside the then Bophuthatswana.
