Extracted from text ... 70 - IMIESA OCTOBER 2006 One of the largest trenchless technology projects in South Africa, began in May 2006, it was instituted by Johann Wessels, the wastewater collection deputy manager for Tshwane. "Approximately 15% of sewers are in bad need of replacement in Tshwane. By replacing worn out sewers, we would be spending R23 075 per kilometre of pipe replaced each year (discounted over lifetime). One would be avoiding potential costs of up to R468 for blockages, R13 219 in infiltrated water purification costs and R77 254 in potential additional costs due to forced open excavation.
