Extracted from text ... 40 - IMIESA JUNE 2006 The current value of South Africa's road network is estimated at around R550-billion - a large investment that is sadly declining into an alarming state of disrepair and erosion, according to the South African Road Federation (SARF). The problem appears to be primarily one of underfunding, says a spokesperson for SARF. However, the federation notes that out of an approximated R43-billion collected annually in tax specifically for the purposes of keeping road users on the roads, only R13-billion is ploughed back into the road network.
