  • ISSN : 0257-1978

The Roads Economic Decision (RED), a cost-benefit analysis model for low-volume traffic on rural roads, was developed by the World Bank. In 2003, Transportek of the CSIR adjusted Version 2.0 of the model for application in South Africa. Subsequently, a newer version of the model became available, and on request of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, has been recalibrated by the Department of Logistics of the University of Stellenbosch. This article provides some background information and provides a short overview of selected technical aspects, as well as an explanation of the aspects relating to the practical application of the model.
