Water is South Africa's most valuable natural resource, and it is something of a 'juggling act' to maintain sporting facilities adequately while taking long-term conservation into account. Most of the water used to irrigate public sports fields and facilities is drawn from either municipal supplies or boreholes. Viable alternatives, if available, are dams or rivers. Using natural water sources will cut costs over time, but an initial outlay will be necessary to install the equipment needed to pump and transfer the water to the required areas.
