Abstract

This article covers what, in the opinion of the authors, were the causes of the collapse of the three-storey building in Roodepoort. No calculations or forensic investigations to test the authors' opinions have been undertaken. This article accordingly focuses on the lessons that others can learn and provides the authors with the opportunity to comment on various issues that could have prevented the disaster from happening.
