A water management device (WMD) is a low-cost, intelligent, electronic control valve that is capable of controlling the flow of water to a domestic consumer at full pressure. When linked to a pulse output water meter, the WMD enables leak and tamper detection, management of delinquent customers and, most importantly, remote data capture and meter control. This is called automated meter reading (AMR), which is the essence of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
