Abstract

The Wild Coast, part of the former Transkei, an 'independent' homeland in apartheid South Africa but now part of the Eastern Cape, stretches 280 km from the Kei River in the south to the Mtamvuna River in the north. Its blue-green rondavel-dotted hills, remote villages, thick forests, jagged cliffs and empty beaches give it a unique character, as does the hospitality and openness of the local Xhosa people.
