Abstract

Les Penny relinquished his direct involvement in the field of hydraulic engineering around the mid 70s, in favour of a new-found passion for waste-handling equipment. His undeterred efforts to find a better solution for waste collection and transportation in itself transported him to new dimensions, which extrapolated his passion beyond the equipment and into the realms of more closely related waste logistics which are, in his opinion, driven by the needs of the environment and the community at large. His endeavours have earned him the respect of many internationally based organisations and he is regularly called on to evaluate potential for improving not only the waste collection and handling aspects of the business, but community and environmental benefits as well. His cost-saving methods generally complement his desire to create meaningful and practical sources of income for communities.
