Abstract

GO GEORGE IS A scheduled public transport service, serviced by a remarkable mixed fleet of buses that are reliable, scheduled, accessible, safe, and affordable. The project is the result of a partnership between George Municipality, the Western Cape provincial government, the national Department of Transport (DoT) and local minibus/taxi and bus operators from the George area.According to James Robb, manager of George Integrated Public Transport Network (GIPTN) for the Western Cape DoT, "Initial planning was for the public transport service in George to be rolled out by the end of 2015. Due to several factors, this was not possible and phases Four, Five and Six still need to be rolled out. However, the first three phases of Go George have been operating successfully for almost a year."
