Like many developing countries /tieing severe foreigil exchange problems, Ghana has embqrked on a policy of export diversification. Lately, the country has concentrated on the promotion of international tourism as a major source offoreign exchange earning. The initial results are promising. The present paper examines the growth of this industry from its early and unremarkable inception in the mid 1950's to its present state where it is the third largest foreign exchange earner for the nation.
