Abstract

Continuous innovation has become essential for sustained competitive advantage. This innovation has to be organized as a systematic process of continual improvement. This article identifies and discusses organizational characteristics which foster learning, innovation and renewal. It reviews recent research findings on innovative organizations as well as some theoretical discussions of innovation in the global economy. Special attention is paid to the role of information practitioners, looking at how they can reposition themselves so as to play a more valuable role in a dynamic and fast-changing environment.
