oa South African Journal of Information Management - Interdisciplinary investigation of the authenticity and long-term preservation of electronic records
The quest for ways of addressing the challenges of the authenticity and long-term preservation of electronic records has increasingly infiltrated the research agenda of not only archivists and historians but also scholars in computer science, engineering and other social sciences. InterPARES is one such research project. Its first phase began in 1999 and lasted until the end of 2001, while its second phase started in 2002 and is expected to end at the end of 2006. Through both its phases, the research project has sought to be multidisciplinary and engages in rigorous theoretical and methodological interrogation of challenges of preserving, over the long term, authentic records generated in electronic systems.
