This article reports on the provision of information to adult type 2 diabetic patients at Addington Hospital in Durban. The paper is based on a study that was conducted on the patients who attend the Diabetic Clinic at the hospital. The article reports on the health care information provided to the type 2 diabetic patients to improve the management of their diabetes. The study adopted a quantitative approach using a semi-structured interview to collect data from the patients who attended the clinic. The results of the study indicated that certain factors influenced the patients' decisions about their diabetes self-management.
The study concluded that the patients were satisfied with the information that was conveyed to them by the doctor. They commented positively on the information contained in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health pamphlets on diabetes. There was an overwhelming concern and fear of diabetes related consequences.
