At the onset, Naylor reveals the history of the book, which took the form of lectures, seminars and seemingly interminable debate. The quality of the ultimate product, which comprises six chapters and a seventh that is somewhat unassumingly titled 'Afterword: Satanic purses', probably owes much to the way that the book was put together.
