I am a gardener and the title of this chapbook grabbed me right away. But first thing I did before reading Mariss Everitt's poems, was to open the book at the middle, fold it out flat and turn it over so I could see the whole of the quilt that covers its front and half the back. The quilt, A full bed of roses, is one of the most beautiful designs I've seen in quite a while and were my quilting days not long over I would copy the pattern for my own bed. But to the poetry - to one side of the quilt, on the back cover I read that Mariss is a quilter, a gardener and an activist.
