Shakespeare and The Na?ve Reader VICTOR HOULISTON This paper sets out to challenge several practices and pieties in contemporary Shakespeare studies in South Africa that give cause for disquiet. They all have something to do with Shakespeare on stage or in performance. The first is that Shakespeare is centre stage in the curriculum.
