n International SportMed Journal - The role of exercise programs in the rehabilitation of patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by erosive symmetric polyarthritis, systemic manifestations, and, in most cases, progressive disability. The disease results in a decrease in physical activity and, consequently, diminished aerobic capacity, muscle strength, and joint mobility. Since RA is associated with reduced physical capacity, an increased chance of systemic osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases, physical activity and regular exercises should be encouraged.
