Abstract

Advances in sports medicine have largely and traditionally governed the sports-injury domain. As such, the focus has been mainly on improved diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries; elite or high-performance athletes; and identifying intrinsic risk factors. Because of this focus, there is no doubt that significant progress in the development of sports medicine as a specialist discipline has been made. A number of commentators, however, are now calling for sports medicine to enter the arena of evidence-based medicine.
