Britain's prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, visited Australia in the early-1990s. At that time the Labor Party dominated the Australian political landscape, seemingly with a secure hold on power that would endure for at least the next generation - think Australian cricket team until last year. The Coalition, by contrast, was riven with internal dissent and poor morale - think French soccer team at the World Cup.
