In the ever-romantic Sonnet 116 William Shakespeare describes the beauty and wonders of love and marriage. He questions why two "true minded" people should not be married when they love each other. Ever since Shakespeare wrote this poem, the practice of unmarried heterosexual partners living together as married partners (cohabitation) has developed and become a norm in society. McDonald v Young (292/10)  ZASCA 31 (24 March 2011) recently considered the issue of a duty of support in cohabitation.
