Sporting, religious or fund-raising functions might fall into the class of events which are to be regulated under the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (2 of 2010). On the face of it, a fun run or walk for parents and scholars, a religious procession along the beach-front, a social club end-of-year dance and a local rugby or soccer derby between schools or clubs, all qualify as "events" in terms of the Act, provided they take place along a route or in a stadium or venue as defined.
