In June, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) handed down its ruling in the matter of Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) v Registrar of Trade Marks. The case revolved around the scope of protection afforded to a trade mark application that had been filed for the class 41 heading of the Nice Classification.
