The COMESA Competition Commission has received much attention since it came into operation on January 14. Though intended to be a one-stop-shop competition regime for Eastern and Southern Africa, there are three respects in which the regime may frustrate acquisitions (and by implication foreign investment) in the COMESA region, rather than operate to "boost regional trade and investment" as it aims to do through promoting fair competition.
