The COMESA Competition Commission has received much attention since it came into operation on January 14. Though intended to be a one-stop-shop competition regime for Eastern and Southern Africa, there are three respects in which the regime may frustrate acquisitions (and by implication foreign investment) in the COMESA region, rather than operate to "boost regional trade and investment" as it aims to do through promoting fair competition.

So, you can imagine my amazement when I agreed to my running partner's suggestion that we run the 2013 Rotterdam Marathon and, a week later, the London Marathon... where did my cautious reasoning go? In that instant, I became a member of the looney club.

The illuminated line on the flickering screen defines a flight path between Regensburg on the port side and Nuremburg to starboard, skirting the heavy flak concentrations around Munich and avoiding the Focke-Wulf night fighters based at Tempelhof airfield, Berlin, to the north: outside air temperature, minus 25 deg. C: time to destination, two hours.
