Abstract

I confess to being a Roman-Dutch law-phile (there must be a better term for this condition). Many would be surprised to hear the law referred to as something exciting and romantic but, to me, this is a fitting description of the history and development of Roman-Dutch law. Think of its origin with a fratricide (geminicide? - remember Romulus and Remus), and its supporting role in conquest and empire building, alongside that equally durable testament to Roman ingenuity, Roman roads.
