Taking on a pro bono case, both within a larger law firm or as a single practitioner, is a major undertaking. You choose to involve yourself in the life of another person (because the type of work that qualifies as pro bono work almost always involves a natural person rather than a juristic one), inevitably at a time when that person feels vulnerable and under some kind of legal threat, such as facing an eviction, receiving a summons or being denied access to their child.
