As has been the trend for the past couple of years, there have been interesting developments in the whiskey industry during 2015. Besides the plethora of new and interesting releases, we have seen a rise in outrageously priced no-age statement whiskies. And the industry as a whole seems to be gathering steam to continue with this trend, despite dropping global whiskey sales, due to inter alia economic factors and decreased demand in China. Certain brands or distilleries have certainly not been deterred from placing premium on what many would consider to be ordinary whiskies of unstated age.

The first annual Swartland Revolution event took place in Riebeek Kasteel in 2010. Its aim was to raise awareness of the area and to show the diversity and common greatness of this wine producing region, and the talent of its young gun winemakers. It soon became one of the most important events in the wine drinking calendar and tickets for this year's event sold out in minutes.

After many months of planning, dreaming and one too few practice hikes, on Friday 13th November, Robert and Tanya Scholtz, Monica Da Silva, Johan and Hildegard Lusse, Adriaan Reyneke and I eagerly embarked on our first ever multi-day hike, the Otter Trail in the spectacular Tsitsikamma along the Garden Route coastline.
