In the recent case of ER24 Holdings v Smith NO  SCA 55 (RSA), the Appeal Court was called on to consider the position of a volunteer worker who was seriously injured in an accident that occurred while she was travelling in a vehicle driven by an employee of ER24, Natasha Swanepoel. ER24 operates an emergency service. Staracek, a volunteer worker, sued ER24 for damages in excess of R7m.
