Abstract

Measures of serum lipids, including cholesterol, now form a prominent part of the laboratory's routine workload and are among the most common tests requested by GPs. Patients for investigation should be those most likely to benefit. Identification of secondary hyperlipidaemias needs to be sought at an early stage.
