Apart from predators, disease and bad weather conditions, stock theft is one of the numerous risks every livestock farmer has to face on a daily basis. Researchers have found that stock theft is the result of mainly poverty and drought conditions, with the latter resulting in low yields (Dzimba and Matooane, 2005; Cheserek et al., 2012; Khoabane and Black, 2012).
