n Veld & Flora - Reporting on floral diversity : a collaboration between CREW and EPCPD - CREW news

Members of eThekwini Municipality’s Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department (EPCPD) and the Durban CREW group have joined forces to survey eThekwini-managed sites in the hope of finding Species of Conservation Concern.

These data – collected by the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW) programme’s Durban group while surveying sites for Species of Conservation Concern – are a great asset and assist with reporting on the state of floral diversity. In eThekwini Municipality – which includes Durban – this is achieved through a data-sharing agreement between the EPCPD and SANBI. The skills owned by the Durban CREW group are invaluable, as their knowledge and years of experience working on the natural vegetation and habitats of eThekwini provide substantial benefits in the field.
