n Journal of Public Administration - An overview of learning style flexibility and whole brain learning in assessment practice : an outcomes based approach




This article provides an overview of various aspects associated with outcomes based approaches. The outcomes based approach followed in South Africa requires Public Administration students to be more critical thinkers and also calls for the application of knowledge. The so-called ''Mbeki-children'', those that have received outcomes based education from Grade 0 - Grade 12 will be entering Higher Education in 2009. The question that academics need to pose is whether lectures are ready for this new breed of students. Is an outcomes based approach applied that makes provision for different learning and thinking styles? Lastly, are assessment activities designed in such a manner as to facilitate different learning styles? Based on action research, the author attempts to answer the above stated questions.
