Abstract

Public sector institutions have always been under pressure to provide services to members of the public, taxpayers, in an efficient, economic and effective manner. Public institutions are also under pressure from the private sector to create a conducive environment within which local economic development can be enhanced. It is therefore the strategic role of government to not only create a conducive environment but also to formulate policies and structures which ensure that the financial, human and economic resources of the country are utilised for the good of the communities. The collection of articles brought together in this issue of the Journal of Public Administration represents some of the interesting articles which seek to address some of the pressures identified above.
