The Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 was published for general information ( 32186 of 29 April 2009). Apart from the provisions listed in items 2(1), 4, and 5 of schedule 2, the Act will take effect eighteen months after the date on which it was signed into law (s 122 read with item 2(2) of schedule 2). Signature took place on 24 April 2009. The Act introduces rules, requirements, and consequences for contracts between consumers and suppliers that differ in many respects from those which apply to such contracts at common law.
