Abstract

The date of commencement of the Renaming of High Courts Act 30 of 2008 was 1 March 2009. The Act makes provision for the renaming of the High Courts to give effect to item 16(6)(a) of Schedule 6 to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. This item required that all courts, including their structure, composition, functioning and jurisdiction, and all legislation, be rationalised with a view to establishing a judicial system suited to the new Constitution.
