n South African Law Journal - On fuzzy foxes and floating heads

This article examines the implications of the cross-over from the real world to the virtual world in respect of the practice of law, and touches upon the teaching of law. In particular it investigates what ethical and practical issues are raised by virtual legal practice, such as: how does one guarantee confidentiality and ensure attorney-client privilege is maintained in a virtual world environment? What of our strict adherence to the split bar and the referral rule? How are attorneys and advocates to be regulated in an environment which is borderless and without a jurisdictional framework? And, finally, what novel approaches could this virtual world bring to legal training and teaching?
