Abstract

It is a great privilege for me to have been invited to deliver this lecture in memory of the late Victoria and Griffiths Mxenge. Tonight is the eighth in a series inaugurated by President Mandela and delivered by a number of distinguished South African lawyers, including most recently, Chief Justice Pius Langa. I feel greatly honoured to have been asked to join that distinguished company by this University that is my own alma mater. The Rev Jesse Jackson recently reminded us of the importance of remembering those whose lives are the landmarks along our journey to democracy, and it is in that spirit that tonight we commemorate the contribution by Victoria and Griffiths Mxenge.
