Abstract

This book is the fruit of a conference held in September 2008 at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. I was fortunate enough to attend that conference and the high standard of the papers presented there made me look forward to this publication. The resultant peer reviewed book is not a disappointment - it meets and even exceeds expectations. The editors submit that it is an opportune time to evaluate to what extent the goals of the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 has been met in South African workplaces. The publication sets out to do so from a comparative perspective. Contributors include authors from South Africa, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Germany. A wide variety of perspectives are therefore presented in this book. The editors have, however, succeeded in achieving a seamless integration of otherwise self-contained topics into well-ordered chapters.
