This paper studies the view pre-service EFL teacher have of themselves as readers and reading teacher of the future, and how these identities of the self are being addressed in the teachers education program. To prove and research this study two questionnaires were provided to 132 pre-service teachers at Atatürk University, all of who were studying to become English teachers. The questionnaires were used to measure the self-perceptions of the pre-service teachers and their beliefs about the role and responsibility of teaching reading. Additionally, 7 teacher educators responded to the questions related to how and to what extent the identity of the teacher as a reader and a teacher of reading was treated in their respective courses and programs. This information is important, especially in light of the changing paradigms impacting educational practice.
