Abstract

Health experts urge women everywhere to breastfeed their children, but that advice is especially important in Guyana. One of the poorest countries in South America, Guyana also has one of the highest rates of acute child malnutrition in the world, rivaling that of famine-stricken African countries. Now, an IDB-financed program to encourage breastfeeding has become a key part of Guyana's efforts to improve health.
