It has been reported in the press that the Independent Ratepayers Association in Ekurhuleni, on the basis of this decision, is asking for a court order forcing the 100 councillors of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality who approved R10,8 million for the legal fees of their former police chief, Robert McBride, to personally pay the fees. The case involves drunken driving charges. The association claims that the approval of that amount was in direct violation of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
