Prefaced by a thoughtful Introduction ("Learning about Space, and about Ourselves") and divided into sections addressing "Stories and Identities", "Places and Landscapes", and "Cultural Identity", this new collection of essays from nine South African and one Dutch academic represents a valuable attempt to mount a crossdisciplinary investigation into the psychodynamics of identity-construction in the new South Africa. "Who are the people who call themselves South Africans?" the editors ask.
