Abstract

Openbare figure kan beskryf word as persone wat op sodanige wyse reeds in die openbaar bekend geraak het vanweë hulle status, amp, beroep, doen, late en misdade dat hulle openbare belangstelling gaande maak sonder dat hulle noodwendig aan 'n nuuswaardige gebeurtenis gekoppel is - hierdie persone is dus op sigself nuuswaardig (sien Neethling e.a.2005:246 vn. 238; Neethling 2014b:113-4). Die kwessie van die beskerming van die persoonlikheidsregte van openbare figure het in die onlangse verlede dikwels die aandag van die howe geniet. In het die skending van 'n openbare figuur se persoonlikheidsregte op die goeie naam of reputasie, eer of waardigheid en identiteit ter sprake gekom, wat vervolgens onder die loep geneem word.
