Abstract

Hierdie artikel bespreek verskeie aspekte van postkoloniale verset wat voorkom in , 'n roman deur Dan Sleigh. Die artikel lê klem op die verwoording en strategieë van postkoloniale verset deur die bespreking van struktuurmiddele soos : die rol van die outeur, verteller en fokalisering, die relativering van geskiedskrywing, die ondermyning van meesternarratiewe, die ervaring van ruimte en die konstruksie van die "ander". Die artikel wys ten slotte daarop dat wel deeglik as historiese roman met sterk postkoloniale visie gelees kan word.

This article discusses the portrayal of various aspects of postcolonial resistance in the historical novel by Dan Sleigh. The article place emphasis on the strategies of resistance followed in this novel by referring to structural aspects like the author, narrator and focalisation; the undermining of historiography and master narratives, the description of colonial space and the Other as constructs in colonial and postcolonial literature. The article concludes that can be read as a historical novel with a strong postcolonial vision.
